Just a short video clip of a fox cub, taken tonight in the garden. It's not from the trail camera though. I've invested (not heavily) in a Metz Mecalight LED-480, which is basically an array of LEDs which sit in the camera hot shoe (the hot shoe is non-functional for these purposes). I still need to be quite close to shoot video as the light drops off rapidly after a few feet, but it is a vast improvement on trying to aim a torch with one hand and film video with the camera in the other.

The conditions were dire (wind/rain) which meant I wasn't out there for long, and nor were the cubs cooperating. So the scene is nothing special, just a test of the new piece of equipment.

The stills (in the vdeo and below) were all taken last night with standard flash.

Camera note: video and stills taken with the Canon 7D and EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

  1. He was a little skittish, wasn't he? Not used to the new lights, I'll wager … and that was some wind! Blowing the peanuts about!

  2. dW, yes, a combination of bright light and the high wind did make the cub nervous. They hate wind especially as it plays havoc with their hearing which they place huge reliance on.
