Well we had the first snow of winter this morning. Just a thin layer which didn’t affect local travel arrangements, but enough to put a nice wintry glow on Falmer Village early this morning.

Falmer Pond, frozen

The pond was partially frozen over, the ice more than sufficient to hold these black-headed gulls.

The light was poor (as ever), but I was quite pleased with this slow-pan sequence of a greylag carefully picking its landing site.

  1. It might be cold but at least it looks like a winter. In Vancouver we have almost spring weather, with temperatures around 10C and some sun. But Pineapple Express has started again and we are having a heavy rain every couple of days or so…

    1. Darko, it didn’t last. Still cold, but now wet again. Our weather is so unpredictable. Sounds pretty mild in BC. Shame about the rain. I recall you mentioning the Pineapple Express previously.

  2. Words, nice images! Love the landing sequence! I always find it a treat to watch the birds landing on the ice!

    1. Robin, the geese were sussed and went for the water not the ice. Ducks aren’t always as careful, though there were no mishaps while I was watching. All thawed out now 🙁
