This was very nearly another boring post about cormorants. Sure, they were at the pond: four of them, swimming and posing as though they owned the place and I did get 'several' shots later in the day. This first sequence though is from the morning when the light was dire and I was shooting at ISO 3200.

The other recent avian arrivals (alongside the cormorants) are the greylags and I spotted one quietly paddling along, for once minding its own business. Just behind a cormorant closed in, diving under the surface just short of the goose.

Less than three seconds later…

Later the same day the cormorants were in a more relaxed frame of mind (no doubt having fed well during the morning).

This is just a cormorant equivalent of a yawn…

And as a closing note, a few short clips from the trail cam. It seems our badgers are back to regular visits. 🙂

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. Video from the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD.

  1. That first sequence is a gas, Words! LOL … And the cormorant shots are good ones.
The trailcam seems a touch better adjusted, doesn't it?

  2. 😆

  3. Any way to get that trail cam a little higher from the ground and tilt it downwards to get more pleasing composition where the horizon is one third or less from top? 😀

  4. dW, thanks! I enjoyed that sequence with the goose. Not often you see them fleeing like that. 🙂
Still playing with the trail cam, but the extra distance helps. Not much I can do if they come right up to it though.

  5. Andy

  6. Sami, point taken. The rear of the cam is slightly different from the previous one so getting the angle right is a bit awkward. I've tried a slightly different set-up tonight, and if the mists clear I'll find out if it worked!

Looking forward to see the results :wait:

  8. Yawning on the no-fishing sign. Such an arrogant bird!

  9. One sees that sort of thing … oh, hither and yawn.

  10. Adele, I think arrogant is definitely the right word for them. 😉
