This was the sight that greeted me at work this morning, my first glimpse of the lesser black backed gull chicks. They are two or three weeks behind the more numerous herring gulls babies who are cheerfully prancing around on neighbouring roofs. Hopefully they'll do well, though I suspect most people won't even realize that they are quite a special brood in this area.

And to go with the chicks, a few fox cub shots from early evening.

  1. Ah … young Reynard Fuchs is growing longer and leaner by the day.

  2. Very nice shots

  3. I've been hearing a black-backed gull over here lately, but I haven't seen it, and certainly not the chicks, so interesting to see the picture

The cubs are growing up fast.

  4. dW, the little foxes will very soon be big foxes. 😀

  5. Erwin, thanks!

  6. Adele, the black-backeds are a bit of a treat given how many herring gulls we have. They have somehow picked the single most inaccessible roof they could, but maybe that's by design (aiming for the highest point).
