Before I get on to the foxes, there are a few other shots from today. It started early with this young mistle thrush high in one of the trees that surround Falmer Pond.

It was also a pleasure to see a buzzard glide by, coming in just over the roof of the church. I saw another buzzard out over fields at lunchtime and being mobbed by crows, but this is the early morning shot.

The ducks weren't going to be outdone. A fairly standard flight formation (what else from flying ducks), but they circuited several times and so I relented and grabbed a few shots.

If you've ever wondered what things look like from the air (bird's eye view) then you might be interested in this next photo. It was being used just outside my office at lunchtime and was shooting a short HD video. A very cool device! it's a GoPro camera set in a 'drone'. The flight was amazingly stable and seemingly easy to control.

Very tempting, but I'm not sure I really have that much of a need for one. In fact I have no need for one at all, but it's a great gadget.

And now for the foxes… or cubs, if I'm being precise. I saw three of them in the garden this evening and they are certainly becoming accustomed to flashing lights and cameras. This is a small selection, plus a video from last night which is worth watching to the end (it's short).

And now the video…

Camera note: daytime shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. Fox cubs photographed with the EF 24-105 F4L IS USM lens.

  1. 😆 😆 😆

  2. They certainly look bold in your presence. How close was that one on the last photo?

  3. dW,

  4. Darko, they are becoming accustomed to me. In that last shot I could have reached out and touched the cub. It was just about three of four feet away.

  5. I love that last picture of the cub. The vulpine curiosity is already there!

  6. Adele, they are getting bolder by the day, and extending their range (which is great, but also a bit worrying for such little ones).
