I headed back to the secluded pond in Regent's Park today, and there were yet more surprises. These waterfowl seem to be part of a collection rather than wild, but they are certainly pretty. The conditions were poor (again), but it provided a reasonable test for the high ISO capabilities of the 7D. Most of these were taken at either ISO 1600 or 2000, and even then I could only manage a shutter speed of around 1/200s to 1/400s. First, a couple of shots kindly identified for me over at Wild About Britain.
Ringed Teal

American Wigeon

These next two I identified all on my own 😉
The Northern Pintail again (see previous duck post)

And another pintail

This one's a Shoveller (note that bill!)

The smew was there again… Bridget Riley would have a field day here 😉

Finally a couple of wild birds. The first is easy enough to identify…

And a more scenic view to close, of a young gull and a cormorant.

Given the conditions I'm happy with the quality, but would really like some decent light to see what the camera is capable of. Being able to get anything in such poor conditions is a bonus, but I'm craving high shutter speeds and low ISO. Then I'll be able to see what it can really do.

  1. The new camera does seem to be going well. And there seems to be no end to the different species of duck, you're lucky to have so many to hand.

  2. Words, beautiful shots. Looks good from this end! Clarity is great, and no visible noise that I can see!

  3. Where do you find all those ducks?
Hmm, maybe they find you, instead 😀

  4. I'm guessing that you were out in Regent's Park today! I was looking through the office window at the sunshine and wondering what St James' was like :right:

That smew. So many lines :eyes:

  5. Adele, spot on. I was in Regent's Park. Some photos later. Let's just say I'm pleased with the new camera 😀

  6. Darko, Eyes, just eyes! Seriously, the park is a great place for bird life so it's almost too easy.

  7. Robin, the unprocessed shots carried some noise (not surprising), but I had a sunny day today and got some real crackers!

  8. Mick, these ones I think are part of a collection, so not strictly wild. That could be the reason for the gate in the smew shots. But I'm not complaining!

  9. Just beautiful. So many different ducks. What awesome shots!

  10. Lois, the unusual ones aren't wild. It's a nice collection and was a bit of a surprise to stumble upon.
