Ponds and Feathers

After photographing so many dragonflies I decided to visit the local 'duck pond' today. Part of the reason for the change in location was the overnight rain (much needed), which will have left the dragonfly pond excessively muddy. Not ideal for lying prone on the ground to get down to water level. The duck pond is rather more sedate, and I wasn't disappointed. Some very young ducklings were taking to the water.

The moorhens were unusually cooperative today.

And I even spotted a slightly more exotic creature basking in the weak sun

A few more showers this evening (the garden needs them), and a brief visit by Cheeky, the young vixen.

LOL, Cheeky looks like such a bandit!

I've seen a few terrapins up here but not many (not that we have many ponds, though…) Last winter must have been very tough on them.

Adele, Cheeky is a real terror. She's the smallest of them but makes up for it in sheer bravado. I know next to nothing about terrapins, but it wasn't something I expected to see. I'm still not sure it was real! It was so still that it looked like a model (maybe it was).
