It may well be literally true that I've seen more rain this year than ever before. It is certainly close to the wettest year I recall. The land around here is sodden, but fortunately we're not near any rivers and being on high ground we are relatively unlikely to face any serious flooding. Smaller roads can get a bit swamped, and as I mentioned last week trees can come down.

Anyway, the early morning wasn't too bad. A light drizzle was all, more than compensated for by a pair of cormorants on the pond.

By lunchtime things had taken a turn for the worse, and typically the weather fluctuated between momentary brightness and absolute downpour. While I was sheltering in the car from the elements I spotted a pheasant wall-hugging its way to more effective woodland cover.

The white ducks weren't too bothered by the rain, and were making the most of the chance to get thoroughly dirty by lapping the muddy puddles that were everywhere.

It doesn't do the rain justice, but this was the pond during one of the heavier bursts.

Finally, just to prove it really is pretty wet here, this sequence of the younger vixen taken last night. She was clearly keen to get the peanuts despite the torrents of falling rain. The sound is dubbed, but gives an idea of what it must have been like out there.

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

  1. Good ones, Words … despite Jupiter Pluvius.

  2. I totally empathize with that young vixen. I could walk through rain and storm just to get some nuts 😀
