It's been a slightly mixed weekend with the foxes. I think it was on Friday evening that the mysterious 'other' fox briefly showed in the garden. I was able to snatch a couple of snaps through the window, but even that was enough for it to turn tail.
Mysterious fox

We did see a cub out in the garden very late Friday, and again last night. We watched from a window and it ventured across the lawn a couple of times looking for grubs (judging by the typical nose-down behaviour). We also got the briefest glimpse of Roofy on Saturday. Sure enough he was on a roof. This time though, it was our garage. From what I could tell his injuries looked no worse, though the view was awkward.
Roofy on a roof

I had hoped that we might get a daytime visit today. Glorious sunshine should have brought Roofy out, but nothing at all until I saw him trotting along the pavement outside early in the evening. No photo of that I'm afraid, nor of a kestrel flying into the garden at about 8 feet from the ground. It swooped in over the fence before swinging up and away. I did try (really) but was so startled that I completely missed the opportunity. I managed a couple of ok shots of it overhead, and did get a cracking shot of a pigeon.
Kestrel

My disappointment over messing up with kestrel was set firmly aside though tonight. I went out late and Roofy appeared. I was able to get a good look at his head which seems to be healing well. The bare patches are still there, but they look clean. I'm hopeful it will just heal. While I was out there I could hear some noise at the side of the garden. Roofy heard it too, and he went over to the fence. To my delight he emerged a moment later with a cub following behind! He spent about 10 minutes with the cub, which gradually became less wary of me (and the camera). The cub would spot me and scoot. Roofy would simply sit and wait until it returned. This was – I guess – some kind of fox introduction routine. Well I can believe that if I want 😉 By the end I was able to move around, and although wary the cub didn't rush off as it's done previously.

And yes, I got a photo (or two).
