The forecast sunshine duly arrived this morning. It disappeared this afternoon in favour of rain, but by then I'd already been out to the local fields. The smaller birds were feasting along the hedgerow.
There were goldfinches…
And yellowhammers…
The yellowhammers were switching between the trees and the fields, though not venturing as far as the distant sheep (with early lambs).
There was also a small flock of long-tailed tits, keeping close to the cover of the trees and hedges.
And alone in a neighbouring field, this very shaggy pony!
Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens.

28 Feb 2011Words, a very shaggy pony indeed! Lovely shots! I think I favour the little birds over anything else, but do love them all!

28 Feb 2011Robin, the pony needs that coat to keep warm. The temperature has dropped right down again. The small birds are always a pleasure to see.

1 Mar 2011Very sweet birds. Small ones like that are so difficult to photograph well and yet you've done it! I love the pony – I don't think I've seen a shaggy one like tht before.

1 Mar 2011Lois, the long-tailed tits are the trickiest as they always try to hide behind a twig, but what I would really like to get a shot of is the yellowhammers flocking. It looks amazing but so far has proved an impossible shot.

5 Mar 2011Lovely pony! 😀
Nice shots of the birds too. I haven't seen any young animals at all yet…

5 Mar 2011Adele, I'm catching up with old friends with these shots. I was surprised to see the lambs this early, but no doubt the farmer knew exactly when they were going to arrive.
