There were some new arrivals at the pond today. Among all the usual suspects a pair of white ducks have appeared. Smaller than the white goose, but a little larger than the mallards, they were enjoying a shady spot at the edge of the pond. I think they are probably feral Pekin ducks, though feral Aylesbury ducks is another possibility (I'm not great with duck identifications). Whatever they are, they were having fun and proved excellent and lively subjects.

The end of the day provided some more vibrant colour. These were taken in the last few minutes as the sun was setting this evening.

You've captured great whites in those pictures – not blown out or anything. Excellent shots!

  5. Robin, the light at this time of year is just about perfect… and very convenient for before/after work shots! Those two ducks were truly delightful to watch.

  6. Marilyn, thanks. For those shots I tend to use evaluative metering and then use heavy negative exposure compensation (-1⅔). It gives a better shutter speed, darkens the background and – as you spotted – avoids blown highlights.

  7. Erwin, thanks!

  8. Darko, they were certainly having a good splashing time. 🙂

  9. Cynthia, thanks!

  10. Lovely contrast between the two subjects!
