The dog fox arrived very early this evening, and hung around for over an hour while it was still daylight. Mainly he was just lolling around by the edge of the pond, or relaxing on the lawn. Lazy, early evening behaviour at the end of a warm day. We just kept quietly out of his way and watched. Even foxes have a right to some off-duty time.

We watched him for a while and brought out some food. He wasn't that interested in eating so after a brief investigation wandered off, eventually ending up by the side of the pond. He seemed to be watching or waiting for someone (the other fox?). I'm not sure whether it was just because we've had a great day weather-wise, or if the behaviour is to do with the territorial shakedown going on at the moment. He's certainly keen to lay claim to our garden.

In between all this I switched the camera to video mode and caught a short clip. The file is in wmv format. You can view it by hitting this link: The Garden Fox video clip.

More clips are over on my site at Fox Watch!.
