It's tempting to post nothing but fox cubs, but I've not been lucky so far this evening so here are a few shots from during the day. It was wet early on, but by the middle of the day things had brightened up so I went for a walk along one of the local country lanes.

There are several farms along there, and although I didn't see much in the way of wildlife (apart from a distant pheasant), the farm ponies are always worth a photo.

It was only at the end of the walk that I spotted something that made me pause and take a few shots. This is a chiffchaff. It's a noisy little warbler, and quite bold. We also have some whitethroats appearing, but no pictures of those today.

Even though I've no fox cubs tonight, I do have some edits from the trail cam. There were around a hundred clips over night and this selection is from about half a dozen. There are four cubs, two adult foxes, and a hedgehog in the mix. The cubs are two months old. I checked back over old cam footage and the vixen was pregnant on 25th February, disappeared completely for two or three days and was noticeably slimmer when she appeared again. So the cubs were born on 26th February, more or less.

Some of this footage overexposes. I'm trying new settings tonight to see if I can improve the quality, but most of these clips are ok. And they are a lot of fun, especially when the adult male decides to play rough and tumble! Enjoy.

Camera note: all shots taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. Video from the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD.

  2. Wow! What a treat. The cubs are definitely healthy and lively! (I hope the parents are sleeping now…)

  3. Adele, it was a lively night out there. 😀 It's quietened down since, but I'm leaving the camera up as hopefully we'll get more like this.

  4. Alison, thanks! I enjoyed selecting the clips for this one. They're such fun at this age.

  5. Nice choice of music 😀

  6. Darko, thanks. The music is selected by 'length'. I just use the YouTube options and find something that fits the size of the video.
