All in a Blur

It's that time of year again, when the light is poor, the rain drizzles endlessly, and it is frankly a losing battle to achieve the kind of shutter speeds that make sense in photographing wildlife. So instead of going fast, I went slow today and grabbed a few motion blur shots of the gulls at Falmer Pond. One of the things I like about taking these is that I can't really tell what I'll get until afterwards. I can track a particular bird, and I can hold to a background; but the photo is ultimately created by the subject. My job is simply to track keep it in focus if I can.

And coming out of a blur of my own making, with some strikingly poor fox identification over the past few posts, this is definitely Shy Boy.

The first two blurs work really well, Words, and that's a nice shot of Shy Boy … I like the setting.

dW, thanks. The third blur shot looks better when it's blown up full size. The you can see the detail. The Shy Boy shot is just outside our back door.

Darko, I've been so bad with names lately I'm not about to start changing them! 😀

I like the first shot best of the set. The ethereal effect is good

Yes. There cannot be any wildlife blogger in the UK who likes November 🙁 and it appears to have started a fortnight early this year.

Adele, it certainly gets tricky but this time of year can be excellent if the mornings are bright., and for the briefest moment this evening we had a fabulous red glow (before the cloud ruined it).
