A slight change of pace (return to normality?) today, with some of the shots taken over the past couple of days by Falmer pond, including this rabbit lurking among the gravestones in the churchyard.

Low flying ducks are a common sight.

But a buzzard over the church is certainly not something I see every day.

The star turn at the moment though (among the birds) is the heron.

The garden has been unusually quiet tonight, but late last night I did see one of the badgers.

Finally, as a way of smuggling a fox and a bat into this post, here's some of the overnight trail cam footage. The fox seems to be unaware of the danger of creeping up behind a badger!

Camera note: all pond taken with the Canon 7D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. The badger shots were taken with the EF70-300mm 4.5-5.6 DO IS lens. Video from the Bushnell Trophy Cam.

  1. LOL … an amusing video, Words … and the bat looked more like a projectile.

The stills are really excellent, too … I especially like the heron pics and the ducks in flight, and the bunny deserves at least an honourable mention.

Oh that what is was  I thought it was an early autumn leaf flying by 😆

  3. Sami, the first time I saw a bat fly across like that it had me puzzled for a while too.

  4. dW, the bunny shot is one of those that really works best when viewed in full size. I loved the light and shade and the way the rabbit was picked out. The bats always look strange on the trail cam… frame rate is too slow to do them justice.

  5. BTW, Words: Thank you for not saying "normalcy".

  6. dW, 'normalcy' is a word I associate exclusively with American politics, so it wasn't going t creep in here. 😉

  7. Erwin, thanks!

  8. Good.

  9. It's strange seeing the foxes and badgers together. In the prairies, coyotes and the North American badger species sometimes engage in cooperative hunting of prairie dogs. I guess peanuts don't need such advanced tactics 😉

  10. Adele, given how the young foxes fought over a peanut I'm surprised there haven't been any scrapes out there (so far). Maybe the foxes are learning.

  11. Beautiful Pict
