In one of the comments[/URL] on my earlier rat post, Uncle Mick suggested that it's all PR and bushy tails… the reason why squirrels are loved and rats despised. I can't be sure, but I suspect this little rodent reads this blog and, inspired by Mick, is making a bid for its own moment of 'cute-dom'. I spotted it today playing among the fallen leaves. If ever a young rat was putting on a show, it was this one.

I'll skip the rivals (squirrels) for today, but will include one shot of a heron caught taking a short flight between the waterside trees.

Those are very cute pictures of the rat (especially the second one down) among all those leaves with their nice golden/orange hues….

  9. Oh, how cute are these!

  10. It looks like a mouse to me but I`ll take your word this is a rat 😀

  11. Mick, they do look better in sunshine, and those golden leaves helped.

  12. Erwin, thanks!

  13. Laurajane, I hear the squirrels have a really nasty bite. I always keep my fingers well clear!

  14. Marilyn, thanks. yes, the colours help a lot. 🙂

  15. Robin, not many people would agree 😉

  16. Andy, thanks!

  17. Darko, definitely a rat (but a young one).

  18. i know i was only 7 but i remember it well the stupid thing had a tendancy to steal things from people near the school and it tried to get my space invaders!! obviously i wasnt having that and so it bit my finger and ran off. i still have a scar but the council caught up with it after it scratched another girls face, definitly defitnly evil things!

  19. Sami, there are a lot of them about :yikes:

  20. Christine, thanks! I would never have guessed rats would be this popular.

  21. LJ, I can see that would put you off them for life :yikes:

  22. i guess ur rite lol although i hvnt thought of it for years lol. i tried to take a pic of my two rats but they wudnt sit still and to be honest i doubt theyd do much for the image of rats being over 1lb in weight and huge things with truly giant tails and ears hehee i love em though

  23. Awww! 😉 😀

And what would London be without them?

  24. Adele, I really don't recall ever having seen them like this, though that may simply be down to observation. I do remember being shocked seeing one in San Francisco in the financial district back in about 1978/9… sitting there in a totally deserted street in the small hours of the morning. Really a perfect image, but long before I photographed everything.

  25. Laurajane… big rats!!!

  26. They are so cute, i remember at work the other month the Rentokil man who checks the kitchen areas rat trap/poison thingies, was telling me how he likes rats creatures which was rather intersting. 😛

  27. Mark, I thought you'd like them. They are fascinating to watch and I'm really surprised at just how bold they are with people about.

  28. Great Pict
