Whitethroats are among the cutest of the LBJs I encounter (LBJ = 'little brown job' is the 'technical' term for any small mud-coloured bird that defies identification in the field). I saw this one this morning. It was flitting about in the dense brambles, but emerged long enough for a couple of quick shots.

The bits and bobs from today included a kestrel. In fact I saw several, but mainly at a distance. This one has just caught a vole.

I'm not even going to begin to identify this next one, other than to say that it's a moth. It was settled at the rear of the garden and seemed unusually placid.

And a fox… Cheeky relaxing…

Camera note: all the bird shots taken with the Canon 40D and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM IS lens. The moth and the fox were photographed with the EF 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM.

  2. Thanks Erwin!

  3. Darko, I know it's tricky. She's turning into a very pretty fox.

  4. She's such a cute fox! 🙂

I'm trying to get braver at moth ID but I'm not even going to attempt that one :insane:

  5. Adele, I may sit down one day and really try to match photos of moths to the field guides, but there are just so many to choose from. Not easy.

  6. Lovely Pict
